Enter Hat of Cain in heritage ‘hood Joo Chiat, and you will invariably meet its founder Bill, who has lived in SG for a whopping 31 years.
Bill is probably one of the most passionate people about hats on the island. Definitely about Panama Hats, as his millinery is the only one here dedicated to Panama hats.
“I spent a month traveling around Ecuador to understand the process of making Panama hats and build a solid supply chain,” shares the Canadian expat, who is married to long-time wife Charlotte and father to two adult daughters, Olivia and Amanda.
Bill’s ultimate aim? “To bring back the old hat wearing days in Singapore.”
As such, he provides complimentary fittings at the store, which carries a selection of more than 40 styles. If you can’t make it there, you can still shop on Hat of Cain’s site for hats and effortlessly stylish shirts, shoes and more.
As for Bill? “There is nothing else I’d want to do at this point in my life. I’m having too much fun!”

In 2019, 22 expats were awarded for their tremendous dedication. This 2020, a new batch of 19 winners has been unveiled! All of them have one thing in common: Their brands help people “live well in Singapore” – The Finder’s core mission.
